MX-3: The practical alternative…
-
*As any fule kno, coupes are massively more impractical than hatchbacks. As anyone who's ever actually owned or run an MX-3 for any length of time knows, they're very practical cars indeed - and actually have both more boot space and rear seat space than the 323 on which they're based.
So. What is the most ridiculous load you've ever carried in your impractical sporty coupe MX-3?
I shall kick off with:
- Three other hockey players, one 6'4" and in the rear, including all their kit and the keeper kit.
- Four front seats from two Ford Escorts.
- 250kg of MDF, including two pieces cut to 6' x 4'
- a 7' ladder and a 7' Christmas tree at the same time
I have more, but I don't want to overegg the thread too early :D
You might have to look this up if you're under 25*

Impressive, and funny this should come up! All the lads at work were amazed recently I managed to fit in a 1700mm x 700mm steel bath i had delivered to wrk in the back of the '3 :D
-
Almost 45 Boxed Laptops.
Only mirror I had was the Drivers side wing mirror, and I even had 1 down my right hand side and 2 on my lap.
-
**I was actually saving the bath for later
Red took a left-hand shower bath entirely within her, boot and windows closed :D Surprised a pillock in a Vectra who was arsing about when he ran out of gears and I passed at "70mph honest guv" with a bath in the car
I should also add:
- A 9' long roll of carpet
- An 8' length of 12" drainpipe that my boss couldn't fit in his Alfa 166…**
-
Funnily enough I have just:
- Lugged a full living room/dining room carpet
was a little worried with the new lower stance
In the past Bert has lugged:
- A dining table (with legs removed) and 2 chairs
- An MX3 Bonnet
- About 2 tonnes of rubble (in short trips back and forth) The look on the faces of people at the Tip when I rocked up and started removing half of my yard from the "sports car" was unbeatable.
- Lugged a full living room/dining room carpet

No wonder not many of us run rear strut braces….
-
managed to get a washine machine in the back of mine :)
-
I can fit a complete mobile disco in the back with the seat down
That is
2 x 15" active speakers cabinets
4 flight cases
6 lights
2 lasers
smoke machine
2 light T-bars and 2 speaker stands
Plus a large holdall full of cables
and I can still see out the rear and carry 1 passenger :D

Incidentally, your next post is your thousandth. Planning a party?**

Or maybe that they're not easily available, I'd have one if they were.

**I'll be caging Marvin. Bollocks to it, go the whole hog :D
Might make him a smidge impractical, mind.**

Stuffed an old 32" TV into it a few months ago. With the rear seats folded, the dad managed to horse a trials bike into the back with the front wheel & forks removed, inside of the car stank of petrol for a week afterwards though!
It'd be perfect if the rear loading height wasn't so high! No wonder they sold them as a van in some places :P

These aren't a bad price:
Corksport do a really nice set either but they are more expensive. A case of 'you pay for what you get' though, I guess.
