Air filter housing

  • Hello,
I have just pulled off the air filter housing to remove the pipe coming from the throttle body, cause its badly split, but I found a huge thing that looks like the front of an aeroplane engine

Is there anyway to remove this to free up the air flow? i have had a quick search but cant see anything.
    Thanks
    Michael

  • its ur air flow metre tells the engine how much air is going threw, the cone pushes further back as it sucks in more air giving less a restricktion

  • i have only just noticed that it slides up and down!! does it not restrict air flow?

When you start the engine the draw of the air through it pulls it open.
It closes when not running to keep damp and spiders from entering the engine

I will get your induction pipe in the post monday too 8)
I have 2 left and one is a corker so as you are a member its only right you get the best one lol

  • no it shouldnt but if you take it out the car will not run right and harm the engine i did it with my mitsubishi and it lasted about 2 months then it was nacked slows the car dow too.

to im prove air flow i would remove the old air box and put a cone filter on the end of the air flow meter and just replace the old pipe with either a stock pipe (but thay dont last long) or put silicone pipe to replace it. hope this helps

have a look through the project section and see what some of the other guys have done it may help.

Totally agree, in mine I have a stainless pipe others just put a cone filter on but if you buy a mushroom filter, they have a bolt through the middle to the end that you can use to make a braket to attach it to the old airbox mount then it stops it flopping about. I have seen a lot with cone filters and they just flap about and then weaken that hose even faster

Thanks for the advice, i will have a look. I have an old cone filter in the garage so may as well use it! I have just never seen something like that in any of my previous cars!!
