DILLIGAF?: Project Ratty

  • very good points :)

  • @c01d066f39=Lori:

    Looking good bud :)

It would look a lot better if my bonnet hadn't taken a battering when they delivered it, I had to unfold the pointed bits that sit near the corner of the wind screen, hence why they are wibbly and bent down a little bit, but hey, better than the rat style bonnet I had originally

I feel your pain! I lost 2 metals bonnets to the sheer incompetence of those delivery bastards. Also they managed to cave in the corner of my carbon fiber bonnet, despite it having made it untouched from america in the same packaging. Never sign without checking the product's condition…

If anyones posting a bonnet, bolt wooden battons to the bonnet attachment bolt holes. Have these extend past the pointed tips and they should survive...

  • If I'm honest Marco, I wasn't too bothered by the damage, I knew this could be fixed whereas the old rusty bonnet had had it. If I remember rightly I only paid about £25 for it off ebay free postage.

Right, a tiny update, something not that interesting really, I bought myself some mats to rest my work boots on day in day out. I think back to the days when I would ahve spent about £30 for a set of mats and wonder "why?". Now, being the sensible 30 year old I am (LOL) I decided to get these as they were only £8, why pay more if all that's gonna happen to them is get dirt on them?

And considering the price, they aren't all that bad in quality.

  • Excuse me if I start to go off on one here but I've just been doing some spraying and I fear it may have gone to my head a little

I've been looking at this for too long now and I thought it was time to do something about it! A scratty horrible chipped front bumper!

So whilst it was off and soon to be sanded and primed I thought I'd lose the teeth (shelf thing). I think this makes the front end look a little bit more aggressive.

I'll be posting pics later on when I've re-fitted the bumper.

  • what grade do u go to before u put the primer on?

  • @390a20c761=DaveMc:

what grade do u go to before u put the primer on?

I don't know…. I used a heavy grit on the gouged bits and then the lightest I had to finish all over.

    Here's the end result :?

I'm not overly impressed with it but at least the marks are less noticeable. Once I can afford it I'm going for a full respray anyway fancying white and black.

(Just need that wing sorting out now)

  • Nice job by the looks of it chap, are you gonna mesh the gap or leave it as is? was thinking of doing that or just rattlin it black.

  • oh and spats? you reckon on matchin them to the lip? doing mine over this weekend, is there a rear lip around that fits that you know of?

There is an OEM rear lip (apparently!) nut like everything for this little beast, they are rarer than rocking horse poop.

I am unsure whether to mesh it, I meshed my civic when I de-latted it and just ended up removing tons of bug remnants every week.

As for the spats, I've removed mine(although the fronts are still on after the MOT) for a smoother look, another member did paint his up black and if I'm honest it didn't look too good (rather like when you get a bottom end model of a car and the bumpers aren't body coloured). I'm getting some skirts soon from Ryan (top bloke) and I'll see if I wanna paint them up or go gloss black with them.

  • yeah i see your point with the bug nasty, as for the spat, again i see your point, bidding on some sides at the mo but colour matching is a bitch with the reds

    Just buy pink

Oh, and you wanna try colour matching 13 year old silver up, the code was right, the paint was right, but my car has NEVER been that silver!

  • All I will say to that is never again will I use Halfords for any paint of any kindever again. hate those paints. With your respray are you gonna go half n half? I saw an mx in brum last week White with a diagonal yellow back looked the nuts

  • Looks great 8) I've become jealous of those blacked out headlights too. :P

I found the Halfords own brand rattlecans to have fairly bad quality nozzles too, one can would be fine and the next could start spitting out paint like a hoor.

  • Yeah those lights are awesome, pray tell the method?

  • @9d45a4ad34=jamesshack:

It's easy really. Heat the oven up to 240 degrees and when at full temperature turn it off and place the lights (I did one at a time) in on a baking tray for 5-10 mins. This softens up the adhesive around the lens so you can peel it off (you may also need a small flat blade to help but beware of small shards of glass- I cut the f**k out of my fingers doing them). Then it's just a case of taking the chrome centre out and spraying up the backs.

It is very advisable to have some black silicone to re seal the lens when everything is finished, and also make sure you take out the bulbs otherwise they will explode.

  • Well ta very much will get round to that finishing head rest speakers at the moment then tackle the removal of pesky bumper to get to the lights. :D

  • Value? Who would buy? Got my eye on an S12 silvia….... 8)

  • S13 Silvia/200SX far better car. Hold out for one.

Ah, but this one's a minter, full stainless turbo piping and not a sign of rot, at the moment it's around the £200 mark, I'm not holding my breathe though.
