Famine's Fleet
-
**Since I added to the fleet again today, I should really start a project thread (especially as two of them are actually ongoing projects. And MX-3s).
First up we have Blue.
Blue is a 1999 Honda Accord Type-R, bought last October with 63k on it for just over £4k. Blue is wholly standard except a pattern-replacement stainless exhaust as the stock one rotted like a dead whore's snatch.
Second up is Marvin.
I don't have all that many images of Marvin, though there will be many, many more. Marvin is a 1993 Mazda MX-3 V6 SE, bought last May with 85k on him for £250. Marvin had failed an MoT and was looking at some costly work to bring him back to the road. I found him on eBay and explained my intentions to the owners - a lovely couple from Suffolk - and they took him off eBay at £400 breaking because I would get him going again. Once cars have names, it's a wrench to kill them…
As you can see from the image, Marvin is being stripped of that lovely interior (and wheels) and will be given a new lease of life on both road and track. However, the interior (and wheels) will find a new home on Marvin's younger sister:
Meet Red. Red is a 1998 Mazda MX-3 V6. I bought her in September 2003 for £3,250 from my dad, who'd owned her for about 18 months - he decided to slow life down a bit after a heart attack and bought a diesel Focus. Estate.
Red is an ongoing project in the sense of replacing bits with upgrades when she needs them. The exhaust went and was replaced with a pattern stainless version. The discs needed replacing, so were upgraded to Black Diamond grooved with Mintex 1144 pads (I'm about to replace the pads again after 3 years, so I'll go Mintex again but I'm changing the brake lines to HEL braided and the fluid to DOT4). The front mani/downpipe is showing signs of age, so a stainless one has been procured. However, she will also shortly be home to an SE interior and probably the wheels too, along with J-spec foldy mirrors to make a red SE…
Last but not least, today's purchase:
This is Windy. Windy is a 1998 Mazda Xedos 9 2.3 Miller bought from eBay yesterday for £770. Windy is insane, in that he's as quick to 60mph as a V6 MX-3 (despite weighing almost 2 tonnes) but pulls from 80 upwards (private road) harder than from rest. 80-110 (private road) is quicker than 0-40 - just about 5 seconds.
So, that's the gang :D**
-
Nice collection of cars i too am getting my self a Mazda Xedos 9 2.3 Miller, it shall be delivered tomorrow very excited.
Full service history etc etc, should be a hoot. :D
-
Nice collection.. Which one will be coming to Sunderland though?
-
Blue or Red. Windy needs some mechanical adjustment - I suspect a bent steering arm - and Marvin is in no way road legal or functioning.
-
Nice! The black SE wheels should look well on Red. 8) Don't seem many of them Xedos 9 yokes around either.
-
**I'm working on owning one of every rare-engined Japanese cars ever. I have two 1.8 V6s, a 5-stroke and a 2.2 VTEC never sold outside Europe.
Next up a rotary, a Boxer 6 diesel and the Lexus LF-A V10 **
-
The Xedos does look a minter fella nice find…
-
Lol I know it isn't but that looks exactly like turn 2 on the Top Gear track
Also nice looking fleet you've got there, not sure how many of those Xedos' I've seen around.
-
**
It's the entrance to the Bus Stop at Llandow - the "Oh Shit Lane" spears off left of frame.**

**It came with a replacement bumper and two foglights in the car. It's had a rear-end at some point and, quite clearly from the parts, a front-end recently which has damaged the inside of the front-left wheel well and, I think, a steering arm.
There's a reason it was £770  I'm also a good photographer - the subject looks a lot better than it is :D
But I don't mind. It's not a car until you've aimed a spanner at it.**
-
**Oh for God's sakes…
Someone needs to hide my wallet.**
-
very nice german taxi you have there :D
oh if your looking to own rare cars and a rotary, try a mazda cosmo! think theres only about 5 in the uk or something silly!!
-
- Looks smart, much nicer looking car than the later ones! What lurks under the bonnet?
-
**Err… that one's a 1998/R 523i SE Touring which, confusingly, has a 2.5 litre straight six. Manual gearbox too :D
Tinted windows and dog guard makes it an ideal doggy car, plus it has the towbar for Marvin when he's ready.**
-
Should be enough power anyway. :)
And yeah, the modern BMW numbering scheme has gone a bit haywire. The e46's got especially confusing, the 316i was a 1.9, as was the 318i, 320i was a 2.2, etc. Bloody Germans!

How are you getting on with Xedos, i find the charger wine very addictive.
Looking into getting rid of the 3 cats that will give a 100 quid towards a nice set of pipes. Free it up a little. :D

Very. I'm tempted to remove all the soundproofing to make it more obvious :D

**Indeed - GT has both the 13B twin rotor and the 20B triple rotor versions of the the Eunos Cosmo JC.
I'd have an L10 Cosmo though :D (which you can drive in GT4, if you're so inclined).**

**Minor fleet updates.
Red - Received new Mintex pads all round and finally has a pair of Black Diamond grooves on the back to match those on the front. Not currently MoTed. Impending updates are a new bonnet (Marvin's white one is being temporarily relocated to Red, once resprayed) the SE interior from Marvin and some folding mirrors (once resprayed).
Marvin - Wheels are off and ready for a home refurb. Not much happening on him at the moment.
The Baron - Given that it cost £1k off eBay and had nothing notably wrong while driving or on first impressions besides a gammy handbrake, chucked in for an early MoT. Failed on handbrake and rear hardlines. One £180 set of all the braking components later - Mintex pads, discs, handbrake shoes - and he's due a partial retest next week. Not bad for a 160k BMW.
Windy - Not a lot. Donated sill inserts to Red. They're shiny and say "Mazda".
Blue - Almost sold last week. Buyer wanted A/C model and it was the very last question he asked **
-
**Tiny updates:
Windy/Marvin - Nothing.
The Baron - Did 800 miles in a weekend, three up with dogs and camping gear. 32mpg… Potential wheel bearing noise, but we can't tell which wheel yet.
Red - Minor mothballing to separate all the cars' MoTs and tax dates. Gives me a chance to sort a couple of niggles.
Blue - Did 1,400 miles in two days, to Cologne and back. Fed a tank of Shell VPower Racing 100 and did 35mpg at German highway speeds (130km/h limit) - Cologne to Calais on half a tank. More please! Given some TLC after the epic run and taken for some artistic night-time photography with HDR:
