Sideskirt problem
-
Hi all I have got my skirts back from the paintshop and having a few problems, the door rubs heavily on the end of one of them which I may have to just live with the other is in the pictures
When I removed the rear spatt I found underneath the foam to seal the spatt to the body work but also it had a type of velcro holding them that has been stuck on with what looks like yacht adhesive, like a type of waterproof bathroom sealer.I cannot get it off, its solid, it seems the only way to remove would be to scrape it but that will damage the paintwork. The only other option I have is run the spatts through the bench saw and cut it straight and butt it up to the top of the skirt but I would rather not do that
Anyone got any suggestions for removing this mastic without ruining the paintwork, I have already tried acetone and it does not work !!!

Steam cleaner would do the job.

I do have an industrial steam cleaner but will it get onto the glue, its like rubber
Those white squares are foam pads glued on with a type of sealant

My mate had a similar problem a while back on his car, used a 3m eraser wheel which worked a treat.

Rucksack webbing (straps) are good for non abrasive bodywork rubbing.
have heard a heat gun or hair dryer can work too!

I think I will try the webbing asap it seems to make sense but if its like sikaflex that we use at work it is probably going to outlive the car

yeah man that sikaflex is some bad sh*t. had it on my hands for weeks after i used it to stick some 205 rallye arches on with!!
Only other i can suggest is http://www.actioncan.com/tf90.htm , watch it though as it can soften paint!! or a toffee wheel as suggested, good luck mate!

If you ever have to use sikaflex regularly or even polyester resin, get some of this, its called slig and if its fresh on your hands it will wash it off, including sikaflex
