Can you slap a turbo in a K8?
-
Hi guys,
As im now in the process of putting my v6 back on the road, I was toying with the idea of giving her a bit more grrr. Is it possible to fit it with a turbo without swapping the engine? Where would I get one from and is it a complex job? Where else would I get a few more BHP from without breaking the bank?
Any suggestions would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Lanu

Yes you can use the probe/mx6 hot pipes and headers. Requires cutting and welding the cross member/engine mount brace to let the downpipe through. Nitrous is the cheapest way! But turbo is the way to be :)

robx1r is in the process of this atm

till i lost my job but i'll be up and running soon enough when someone is stupid enough to pay me1111   :D :D

Robx1r, how far have you got with it? Where did you get all of the parts? Would I have to import parts from America? I'm really into the idea of it all.
Does anyone have any idea what fitting a turbo does to your insurance? They have me over a barrel as it is. If anyone else has done the procedure, I'd appreciate a rough estimate of the total cost, as if I can do it, I'm pretty keen to get involved.
Cheers guys

i might also be interested in doing this if it proves to be cheaper and easier then an engine swap…...i imagine ud have to uprate all the internals tho and that would be alot of hassle there is an american company that sells a turbo kit for a probe 2litre.that could be interesting if possible in an mx3.....aparently runs well on standard internals too?any1 heard of this?

Check out se7en's posts…@3fe670c7c4:
225Whp street tuned(10psi), 245Whp (12psi)(300bhp!!!)
That's on stock internals… it was his gearbox that blew and made him give up!
-
intresting i might think about the turbo k8 option as opposed to the engine swap.
you said the gearbox blew up, what gearbox would you need? and how much would the turbo and pipes cost? also what the difference in power? anyone any ideas?
onyl intrested really if it will run on standard internals otherwise might as well do the klze swap even tho it would cost a grand or so…..

right well my sc setup so far is costing €400 excluding management include that your bringing it up to 1700 plus mapping, have no idea of what figure's i'll get i'll do a write up when i get some time and get it finished, but on a good note i converted a honda head to an mx3 for a track car!
-
1700 euros is quite expensive could get 200 bhp from an engine swap with klze power and that only costs about a grand. good luck with the t-bo. think i will save up for the swap though.

€1300 for a go tech ecu that will allow me to sequntially fire the injetors and a distibutorless ignition and invidual coils again with sequntial firing with launch control etc etc and a 3 bar map sensor so bye bye vaf!

Yes my insurance company (adrian flux) want an extra £100 a year for a 50bhp (turbo) power increase on my 1.6 dohc, its worth phoning your broker for sure :)

I'm with Greenlight insurance, subbing to 'Highway'. They've said I can basically do whatever, turbo, nitrous etc same price :) They already know about the ZE. Which incidentally is fooked at the moment. So it looks like I may be turboing my old K8 soon!

nooo marco what has happend to your klze

Cam cap was loose, and a cam committed suicide! Tiz but a scratch…

I said "ooh nasty" meanwhile James said "what's with the Irish keyboard?!?"
