fault codes??
qand how wud the egr fuk fuel comp up??
-
doesnt the egr return gasses to be burnt off, so you use less fuel.
-
yep. Could be alot of things:
distrubutor/misfiring
leaking egr valve
clogged up cat
dead o2 sensor
fuel filter
clogged injectors
etc…Fault codes as in put the car in diagnotic mode and read the LED flashes and refer to the fault code table. This is the first thing I would do.
-
im learnin noo fings all the time
what the hell is diagnostic mode and how do you do it lol

@7be4410846:
put your wire between the TEN and GND, then get a 12v LED from somewhere.
Plug the neg of that into the FEN terminal and the pos into the +B terminal.
I use one with a long wire on so i can sit in the car and count the codes
OK, so, now you're all set up, switch on the ignition as far as ti will go before it craks the starter.
First of all, the LED will light for 3 seconds as a check, then it will display any codes stored.
Long flashes (1.5 sec) indicate the number 10, and short flashes (0.4 secs) indicate the number 1.
So, if you had a code 22, you would see 2 long then 2 sort flashes, code 8 would be 8 short flashes and so and and so forth
If you have multiple codes, they will be diplayed on after the other, then there will be a long flash, then it will repeat the codes
If you find any codes, let us know what they are
Next thing to do is to clear the memory, do this by removing the BTN fuse from the fuse box by the battery and press the brake pedal for 5 seconds.
Before removing the fuse remember to write down your radio code if you have one thumbleft
Wait for at least 6 seconds and restart the car take it for a drive, making sure you exceed 2000rpm for at least 3 minutes.
Then, re-test to make sure the fault is genuine
Well worth learning this then! it's really not hard and it can really help. This is actually taken from club323f, though most codes are the same. Otherwise you can find then in workship manual

sometimes just having an oil/oil filter change can improve my gas mileage. has this 20mpg been consistent or was it just one tank?
-
did an oli and filter before i fited it
an to be fair shes always been heavy on the juice
-
rofl put in a klze and remove the egr system and fit a 68mm tb and remove the cat and also for good measure get a complete powerflow exhaust setup including manifolds.
then come cry about mileage :(
ive had my car since tuesday and done 259miles and paid £90 on bp ultimate petrol :(
although i think the main reason why it was so bad was because the petrol tank was screwed!!! had a crack near the filler neck and was dripping petrol all the time so i swapped my 1.6 tank over gonna filler her up to the brim tomorrow and reset trip will post my results back when she runs to the warning light. hopefully i should see an improvement 111p a litre is a bitch and i dont wanna pay £90 a week to run it. no matter how much fun it is beating type R civics

My first MX3 had a split half way down the petrol tank. If you jack the rear drivers you can see the tank. I was fine as long as I filled tank less than half way and took care round corners. I bought a spare tank but never got it fitted as got new MX3 instead. I could smell fuel badly though and could see it leaking when I first filled the tank. It meant that on a run I sometimes had to stop for fuel 2 or 3 times.
This one is much worse on fuel than my other. Exhaust has given me some greif when I knocked back box off on speed bump but recently I noticed a crack in my manifold. I think I was getting only around 20MPG. I Noticed by smelling exhaust fumes in the engine. Then when dark at night in the cold I could see them with a torch beam. Fixed this then improved.
What MPG should we expect to be getting from
a) Standard 1.8 V6
b)KLDE
c)KLZEIts not just the cost of the swap but the running costs we have to consider. Also call me stupid but wont the emissions be higher for MOT on a bigger engine? If your car should be a 1.8 and is really a 2.5 wont this read above their guidelines?
-
I get about 26mpg daily driving and if i am real carefull bout 32mpg.
-
32's not bad. I only got 33 being careful with my 1.6 Nova GTE. What engine you running and what mods u got? I just got filter and exhaust on my K8.
-
1.8 with induction kit, straight through de-cated exhaust.
To get 32 i didnt go over 2500rpm it was bloody hard so only did it for a week.
-
Iget 33 mpg, which is why i wana get a diesel car, so my mazda is guna be up for sale after the mot….
damn petrol prices
What else can ya do to improve mpg?
-
LPG conversion could halve your cost, though costs bout 1k to get installed. What diesel car are you going to get then? Run it on cooking oil lol - I know a guy runs his audi on it - works out 12p a litre! Totally illegal as the government doesn't get to add 1000% tax..
-
33 seems excellent for an MX3. Why would you swap it for a diesel if you can get that? To get a diesel thats as fun to drive you would be looking at a TDI and then I imagine you would be getting about the same MPG as now plus if they go wrong you really know about it. Probably wouldn't turn as many heads either.
-
yeah 33 is pretty good, but i need something with a bit more room!! damn it
a friend of mine runs his 50/50 with cooking oil!! stinks tho.
Dont really know what to get yet, maybe a vectra estate, or in the lines of that!
