if its from a garage you are covered fully, I have an apprentice at work in a similar boat that I am helping him with as his was a 56 plate polo turbo that has been clocked, accident repaired and the timing went out on its own, mention tradiing standards and its all a lot easier for you
The only thing I could say on these that it possibly could have caused it is the sumps rust a lot if the shields are missing and it could have dumped the lot on the road without knowing or the oil filter has burst or all the water has dumped itself somewhere
these V6 engines a very bulletproof, over engineered and still made today so they have stood the test of time well and its very rare to hear of a seizure on here
GUIDE TO CHOOSING A GOOD SUBJECT TITLE
Although we're chatting away each day within our community, we're in fact building an archive of incredibly detailed, accurate and search-able information for new and future users to reference. Due to this it is essential that we cleanse our data and ensure that its clear and concise.
For that reason, when starting a new thread PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE give it a relevant Subject…
For example - you're looking to buy a new Sony car stereo....
WRONG SUBJECT: 'stereo'
CORRECT SUBJECT: 'Which Sony Stereo should I buy?'
Concise subjects not only improve searching but in fact reduce the necessity to search, instead browsing the contents of a forum will reveal many questions that you may have asked yourself, however a thread titled 'stereo' doesn't give you any indication at all as to the contents of the thread.
From time to time, we'll rename any threads that fail to comply with the above, in which case don't worry its not been deleted, its just got a new name and you can always find it here…

I bet the plonker hasnt removed the front air panel
to fit you need to remove
the plastic cover above the radiator going to the air box, the big airbox on the right hand side of the engine bay and then the big hose running to the engine, all of it needs to come out and then just refit the induction with the air flow meter, that is the short metal tube you had to undo with the plug connected, that is the only piece needed to run the engine, all the other plastic parts must come out
here is some photos
all the black plastic has to be removed in this photo from the front and the right hand side of the engine
once fitted it should look a bit like this when you have finished it
Note: all the missing plastic parts
well from a small local company, he wanted 120 to remove only. front and rear screens.
Maybe its worth shopping around with other small companys before i decide.
I dont know if you can still buy the front and rear screen seals for these anymore or whether they use a retro fit product.
Think I've got some lying around at my unit, will check and let you know, you can have it FOC, you just pay postage. its normally around £40-£50
